Our Mission Statment

Don Bosco Missions Office is a Canadian registered charity BN/NE 83428 7468 RR 0001. We receive donations from across Canada that allows us to distribute funds to Salesian missionaries worldwide in over 100 different missions. The Salesian Missionaries are perpetually professed Priests, Brothers, and Sisters, who care for the disadvantaged youth in Developing Countries. Education and evangelization are at the center of our mission.

The Salesian Missionaries provide nourishment, shelter, education, job training and constructive recreational activities. They help young people achieve intellectual, emotional and spiritual maturity, thus becoming self-sufficient contributing members of society, with Christian values and good social skills. The pastoral-educative service that we carry out is directed to the integral development of the person. Our Salesian Missionaries are evangelizing to educate and educating to evangelize, especially the most vulnerable. They go out to the boundaries, in areas of physical and moral danger. Founded by Saint John Bosco, the missions are guided by reason, religion, and kindness.

The Don Bosco Mission Office in Canada does not hold fundraising events. We rely entirely on the generosity of our benefactors. We encourage all of you who love Don Bosco and have witnessed the fruits of his love to help spread the word and keep his mission alive. We accept all donations and will provide an official income tax receipt. We humbly ask our Canadian benefactors to continue supporting Salesian missionaries worldwide who have been called to educate and evangelize. Together we aim to form upright citizens and good Christians and to keep Don Bosco’s mission alive

Father Charles Ceglar
1966
The Don Bosco Mission Office was founded in 1966 by Father Charles Ceglar, SDB in Sherbrooke, Quebec to help Father John Porter, SDB from Quito Ecuador to assemble Canadian benefactors.
Father John Porter
1966
When the Salesians arrived in Ecuador, they did not have all the resources to finance the Higher Education and Salesian Formation of their seminarians, due to a large amount of money they represented. In order to create a Fund to support this new challenge, Salesian Superiors entrusted this work to a charismatic and talented Irish priest who had worked for 22 years as a missionary in Argentina, he was Father John James Porter, SDB. In the 60’s he joined the Salesians of Ecuador.
Father Pierre Décarie, SDB,
1967
In 1967 took over the responsibility of the Mission Office. He personally traveled across Canada to promote and solicit funds for the Salesian missions worldwide. In addition, he initiated the selling of Everlasting gift cards to help support Canadian seminarians.
Father Maurice Petit, SDB,
1985
In 1985 became the director of the Mission Office after the death of Father Décarie. He started to visit Salesian missionaries outside of Canada to build stronger connections and explore new possibilities for helping Developing Countries.
Father Luc P. Lantagne
2006
In January 2006, under the direction of Father Luc P. Lantagne, the Mission Office moved from Sherbrooke to Montreal, Quebec. This new centralized location is accessible to airports and can easily accommodate International visitors. Presently, the Mission Office continues to receive generous donations from loyal benefactors across Canada. We are very thankful for this so that we may continue to carry on the works of Don Bosco.
